Giving Energy Regions A Positive Voice

Helping Found Australian RE Alliance

In 2013, as Australia’s renewable energy transition was entering the mainstream, powerful interests and sections of the media amplified a small but loud group of regional critics opposed to clean energy and climate action. Dan Cass played a formative role in shifting that dynamic by bringing together farmers, landholders, and other regional Australians who supported renewable energy and wanted a voice in the national debate. He helped establish the Victorian Wind Alliance, which later grew into the Australian Renewable Energy (RE) Alliance.

The Alliance has since become the leading source of credible, community‑driven communications and policy insights from renewable‑rich regions, significantly rebalancing the conversation. Its work ensures regional Australians are engaged respectfully, treated as genuine partners, and given opportunities to lead the transition. Alongside convening diverse stakeholders, Dan led the development of the Alliance’s governance, strategy, brand, and CEO recruitment—laying foundations for a trusted, influential national organisation.
